Employability Skills Toolkit
Overview
The objective of the Employability Skills Toolkit
is for learners to:
- Explore who they are and where they would like to be.
- Be introduced to skill development. This includes learning what skills are and how a person might further develop their skills.
- Develop and achieve employment related goals.
- Use tools to facilitate asking for and receiving feedback as well as problem solving in the workplace.
- Be exposed to employment related documentation including resumes and job applications.
- Provide the learners with a documentation tool called a Career Portfolio.
Objective: Encourage learners to explore who they are. By the end of this module,
the group should be able to:
- Identify who they are.
- Identify their values.
- Identify their interests.
- Reflect on their work history.
- Reflect on what they want their future to look like.
- Better understand how to facilitate skill building and employment plans.
Objective: Provide learners with skills to:
- Explain what “Essential Skills” are, as identified by Service Canada.
- Learn what skills are and what skills they have.
- Identify skills they would like to develop further.
Objective: Provide tools for the learners to set and achieve employment related skills/goals.
- The tools introduced include a “Learning Contract”, a “coach”, and “Weekly Progress Reports” to identify positive and achievable goals.
Objective: Provide learners with the steps to effectively solve problems.
Module 5 “Document and Market”
Objective: Become familiar with the different forms of employment related documentation such as resumes, job applications, the classifieds, and online job searches. Learners will also be given the opportunity to learn how to use the different forms of employment related documentation.
Module 6 “Documentation of Skills”
Objective: Provide learners with information on how to create a career portfolio.
Module 7 “Feedback”
Objective: Gain knowledge of the concept and definition of feedback. The learners become familiar with how to use the learning tool to give, receive, and ask for feedback.
