Connections

Overview
Connections services were developed to be a first step for people with intellectual disabilities and their families to become familiar with our organization. This service is for people who are planning to move to their own home with support from Epic Opportunities. Moving from a family home or from an institutional setting into a home in the community can be very exciting, and it can come with a lot of stress. We know how important it is for people to have support and information when going through change.

Information & Advocacy
  • We provide information about who we are as an agency; our vision, mission and values, as well as how we provide supports.
  • We let people know what they can expect as they go through the process of moving to their own home.
  • We provide families with information on the social service “system” and help them navigate through the challenges.
  • We advocate for the person who is moving to have adequate funding to meet their support needs.
Relationship Development
  • We believe people should choose who they want to live with.
  • We connect people with others who are also looking for room mates and help them establish relationships that help with the decision of choosing a room mate.
  • We arrange group social gatherings which help people get connected to others who may have the same interests and goals.
Skill Development
  • We support people to learn the skills that they need to live in their own home. This may include learning skills such as grocery shopping, cooking, doing laundry, banking, etc
Family Support
  • We provide on-going guidance and support to families.
  • We work in partnership with families to ensure the best possible supports are in place for the family member to have a successful transition to their own home.
  • We work with families to accomplish the goals of their family member.
